Introducing EMV Chip Cards

Enhanced Security for your Debit and Credit Cards

What is EMV? Also known as a Chip Card Technology, EMV is a global industry standard developed by Europay, MasterCard and Visa that is designed to fight fraud. Traditional debit and credit cards with magnetic stripes store data and can be easily cloned. EMV cards contain an embedded secure microchip that is extremely difficult to replicate because the chip creates a unique security code for every transaction.

Coast360 Federal Credit Union will soon offer debit and credit cards with EMV chip technology, which provides enhanced protection against counterfeit fraud when used at a chip-enabled merchant terminal or ATM. This upgrade comes at no cost and won't change your Coast360 rate, benefits or services.

You will receive your new Coast360 chip card in the mail.  The new chip card will replace your current Coast360 card, but you will need to activate your new chip card before you can begin using it. After your new chip card is activated, the old card will be automatically deactivated.

Will my card information change? With your new Coast360 chip credit card, your card number and PIN will stay the same but the expiration date and security code will change. If you have automatic payments set up with your card, you will need to update those merchants with your new expiration date and security code to avoid any service disruptions.

Your new chip debit card number, PIN, expiration date and security code will change. If you have automatic payments set up with your card, you will need to update those merchants with your new card information to avoid any service disruptions.

Simple to use:

  1. Insert your new Coast360 card, face up into a chip-enabled terminal or ATM and follow the prompts on the screen. The slot is typically located at the bottom of the payment terminal.
  2. Keep your card in the terminal throughout the transaction process until prompted to remove.
